Thomas J. McManus, the firm’s managing member, also serves as general counsel to the UFA. Mr. McManus works with the union on a daily basis, which includes defending the rights of firefighters at both EEO and BITS. He also represents firefighters and their families for injuries suffered in the line of duty.

Amber Volz is an associate attorney whose practice area centers on helping firefighters and their families. In addition to representing firefighters in administrative hearings and interviews at FDNY, Ms. Volz also represents firefighters and their families in personal injury actions for injuries sustained in the line of duty.

Robert G. Sullivan, the firm’s senior member, is a pioneer in personal injury law and in litigation on behalf of firefighters. He represented the widows and children of six firefighters killed in a Waldbaum’s supermarket fire in Brooklyn. He has won millions on behalf of injured New Yorkers since joining the firm in 1972.

Nicholas Papain, one of the most prominent and successful personal injury trial lawyers in New York, was Sullivan Papain’s managing member from 1999 until 2018.  He has been a member of the firm since 1985.

Vito Cannavo is a member of the firm who has won a string of multi-million dollar verdicts for clients in medical malpractice, premises liability, motor vehicle and firefighter-related litigation, including a historic $183 Million verdict against the City of New York arising out of the tragic Bronx “Black Sunday Fire.”

Glenn W. Nick, a member of the firm, represents firefighters who are injured in the line of duty. Additionally, he regularly represents firefighters in investigations by EEO and BITS.
